Combined heat and power generation plant implements solar heating

The 7.500 m2 large solar installation will consist of 525 panels with a dimension of 14 m2 each and will deliver warm water to the Danish town called Torring. The Danish company SUNMARK delivers the panels for the plant and has just started the production.

One of the reasons why the combined heat and power generation plant in Torring has chosen to invest in solar energy is the increasing gas price. The price increased with about 65 % last year.

One of the main activity of the Danish combined heat and power generation plant is the production of heat. Another important revenue is the sale of electricity. Since the price for electricity typically is low during the summer it rarely can pay to turn on the gas engines for the power generation. As the need for hot water still has to be covered a solar plant is an ideal solution since it contributes most during the summer. By this both the generator and boiler can be spared.
Beyond the economic benefits of a solar system the environment will benefits from it too. The thermal solar plant will at the start up in spring 2009 reduce the CO2 emission by 10 %.
