From summer 2010 the citizens in the Danish town Hejnsvig can open the tap of hot water without having bad conscience about environmental impacts. Manager for Hejnsvig district heating Ole Bolding and the board are planning the establishment of a 3.700m2 large scale solar installation. The thermal solar installation goes into operation 1st July and will cover almost 20% of Hejnsvig’s annual heating demand. SUNMARK A/S is the supplier and partner in the project.
The solar installation will be prepared for an expansion so that the size can be doubled. By this the citizens in Hejnsvig are secured environmentally friendly heat many years into the future.
Many families are considering to invest in a private solar installation, but especially in a district heating area there are many advantages in investing in a large central solar installation rather than the traditional private solar installations on the own rooftops:
• Higher efficiency per square meter solar collector
• Lower installation costs
• Lower operation and maintenance costs
• Longer lifetime
• Less heat loss by accumulation
• Better heat utilization as there is no surplus production
One of the main reasons for a large solar installation is that the price of heat produced with a small plant is 4-6 times higher than the price of solar heat from a large scale solar installation.
