The first stage of setting up the thermal solar panels in Sonderborg, Denmark started in the beginning of September 2008. The provider of the panels is the Danish company SUNMARK A/S who is one of the leading producers of large scale thermal solar insallations. A team from SUNMARK will mount more than 3.000m2 solar collectors during the next couple of weeks. The final plant will cover about 11.000 m2 and will meet 55% of the district heating requirements of the local area.
Contrary to traditional collectors with a dimension of 2-3m2 the solar collectors from SUNMARK are 14m2 each. Setting up the solar collectors is a very fast process. They are set up on concrete blocks and the team is able to mount about 600m2 a day.
Sonderborg aims to be a global role model of implementing sustainable energy. The goal is to make Sonderborg entirely CO2 neutral by 2030. The driving force within this process is called “ProjectZero” who consists of nine principal initiatives to ensure that climate problems are addressed in time.
